Sidmouth Folk Week

Sidmouth Folk Week is held every summer in the Regency town of Sidmouth, Devon. This week-long festival, including concerts, workshops and street performances attracts thousands of folk music fans from around the world. Every year we work alongside the event production company to keep operations running smoothly.

The Challenge An event of this scale needs slick organisation. The hilly terrain and out of town venues made this client brief a challenge. It was essential to keep the stewards and management team in constant contact across the numerous venues including marquees, church halls, function rooms, pub gardens as well as the streets and parks. Prior to PCE’s involvement, the organisers relied on mobile phones to keep in contact but had a constant battle with poor network coverage.

The Solution Robust analogue repeaters and radios, ideally suited to an event needing reliability. We supply:

  • Motorola handheld radios: The majority came with a fist microphone but a few were fitted with D-ring earpieces to give their users discreet listening ability.

  • Antennas fitted to repeaters that boost the radio signal. The antennae ensure the repeaters give the stewarding team full coverage at the festival and surrounding areas.

  • A channel that allows local coordination of individual areas.

The Result A solution that overcame a tricky terrain and an extensive festival site. The stewarding team suffered no loss of communication throughout the week and as a result, the festival goers remained well cared for and safe at all times. PCE is now invited back year on year to supply radios for the festival. A great result all-round!

Managing Director of the festival’s events company said:

“PCE have now worked with us over a number of years on this project. As the project has evolved and grown PCE have consistently provided the expertise and systems to enable that evolution. Their team are solution providers in the best sense”
